CEO and founder
Marko Šantić brings over 25 years of software development experience and holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. His academic focus on software engineering and complex systems laid a strong foundation for his career in the IT industry. In 2000, he created the world’s first digital, interactive, embeddable online map - five years before the launch of Google Maps.
In 2007, Šantić co-founded GIS Cloud Ltd., a geoinformatics company specializing in GIS and CAD tools for location-based applications across web, mobile and desktop platforms. He served as CEO and later as CTO until March 2024. Alongside his co-founder, he shaped the company’s strategy, secured funding, and built partnerships, growing the platform to over 200,000 registered users and more than 1,000 clients worldwide. The platform supports industries such as urban planning, telecommunications, utilities and infrastructure maintenance. As CTO, he oversaw the technical development of a scalable, cloud-based system featuring real-time data visualization and third-party integrations, while leading an engineering team to meet the needs of a diverse user base, from startups to large enterprises.
Under his and his team’s efforts, GIS Cloud earned international acclaim, including a victory at SeedCamp in London in September 2010 - a startup competition with over 900 applicants—making it the first Croatian company to win, securing both funding and valuable networks. Earlier that year, in June 2010, GIS Cloud was a finalist at IBM’s SmartCamp in Boston, standing out as the only non-US project among the five selected. The platform ultimately reached users in over 50 countries, addressing practical challenges across multiple sectors.
Marko Šantić combines technical expertise in BIM, CAD, GIS, cloud computing, software development, real-time data processing, big-data, analytics and web and mobile application development with business acumen in entrepreneurship, strategic planning, team management, fundraising, and product development. A native Croatian speaker, he is also fluent in English. His career, spanning the early days of the web to modern cloud platforms, reflects a consistent commitment to solving real-world problems through technology.
